Abrasive Perforating
Non-explosive completion technique
A specialized completion technique used to create high-quality flow paths between the wellbore and the reservoir. Unlike traditional shaped-charge perforating (which uses explosives to punch holes), this method uses a high-velocity slurry of fluid and abrasive solids (typically sand) to "cut" through casing, cement and formation.
A proppant-laden fluid is pumped through specialized nozzles on a tubing-conveyed tool string; the resulting high-pressure jet erodes steel and rock, creating a clean, large-diameter cavity.
